The Greek Bar

5-Course Tribute to the Taverna Tasting Event

Just opened this past February, this Mediterranean taverna whose name says just what it is hopped right onto Eater’s List of “Best New Restaurants in Austin” and Infatuation’s “Hit List.” The vibe here is vibrant and relaxed, with arched windows and terra cotta accents that suggest one of those Greek islands we are all just dying to go to. Highlights on the varied menu include intriguing mezzes such as octopus grilled on an open flame, saganaki (pan-seared kefalotyri cheese with lemon and oregano), keftedes (crispy zucchini fritters with mint yogurt) and mains like classic moussaka, feta-brined chicken, and lavraki (whole grilled sea bass with wild greens). “Mamma mia!” says Austin Monthly. “No need to fly to Southern Europe for branzino and baklava: Now, you can simply head to South Austin for authentic Greek fare.” We plan to do just that, and to enjoy what promises to be a very special night out!
