Tartuca
Day 2: 5-Course Ode To Tuscany Tasting Series
Opened in May of 2022, this Italian eatery on North Mississippi was named to Oregonian’s List of “25 Best New Restaurants” and Eater’s 2023 List of “Best Italian in PDX.” Executive Chef Jamie Wilcox grew up in Salem with a passion for plants, gardening, cooking, eating, and foraging. Her drive and passion brought her to cook in restaurants throughout the Willamette Valley, where she landed her first sous chef position at The Joel Palmer House when she was just 19. She then came to Portland, where she worked her way up from line cook to sous chef at Park Kitchen and then served as chef de cuisine at the much-lauded Quaintrelle. There are many splendors to be found on Chef Wilcox’s menu at Tartuca. Consider the burrata with hakurei turnips, squash, hazelnut, and miso, the frisee salad with charred green tomato dressing, grana, and soft-boiled egg, spaghetti with green peppercorn, chili, garlic, preserved lemon, and breadcrumbs, and gnocchi with chanterelles, brown butter, spruce, and hazelnut. “Sensational,” says Willamette Week, so naturally we are pumped to visit!
