Day 1: 5-Course Palate-Bending Pleasures Tasting Series

Opened just this past November in the heart of the downtown Leather District, this cozy bistro was named to Eater’s List of “Best New Restaurants Around Boston Right Now.” Chef Sarah Wade has gained quite the following for her comfort food twists over the last ten years. In 2018, she won Food Network’s Chopped Gold Medal Games and used her winnings to open her first restaurant, Stillwater. Four years later, she opened Sloane’s in Allston, and now, with SJ’s, she is upping her game with far more global influences. Hence, the menu features dishes like prawn toast, sweet onion tarte tatin, matzoh ball soup, cacio e pepe, confit rabbit leg, and steak frites. Luscious desserts too like five layer carrot cake and dark chocolate olive oil cake with rosemary anglaise and maple ice cream. “SJ’s is more elevated than its big siblings—but with enough eclectic touches to keep things fun and true to Wade’s culinary spirit,” says Boston Magazine, so we are definitely intrigued and very much looking forward to our visit here. An Oklahoma native, Chef Sarah Wade won Food Network’s Chopped Gold Medal Games in 2018, beating out 16 competitors in a winner-take-all competition. In 2019, she opened Stillwater in Downtown Boston, soon following it up with Sloane’s in Allston and SJ’s in the Leather District. She has been featured on The Phantom Gourmet, Wicked Bites, and Boston Chronicle.
