Shimogamo
Day 1: 5-Course Nouveau Japanese Tasting Series
Opened way back in 2003 in Chandler, this amazingly durable veteran of today’s volatile restaurant scene has kept things absolutely fresh, landing this year on the Phoenix New Times’ List of “Top 50 Restaurants in Phoenix Right Now.” (In 2024, the Phoenix New Times named Shimogamo its “Best Sushi” Award Winner.) The family behind Shimogamo moved to Arizona in 1994 from Japan and immediately saw that their neighborhood lacked restaurants where they were able to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine. In 2003, Sanae and Yoshio Otomo finally decided to open a restaurant in Chandler to serve their native food, devoutly respectful of the origin and quality of the culinary culture of their home country. In addition to the glistening sushi, nigiri, and sashimi, there are distinctive dishes like udon carbonara, wagyu gyoza, chicken karaage, miso cod, and much more. Uncommonly delicious desserts too, like green tea panna cotta and out-of-this-world cheesecake. “Absolutely spectacular,” raves Phoenix Magazine. “Chandler never had it so good.” We can’t wait to visit here and hope you can join us for what promises to be a very special evening indeed.
