Scampi

Day 2: 5-Course Eclectic Meets Eccentric Tasting Series

Not opening until August, this brick-and-mortar eatery from Philadelphia's pop-up queen, Chef Elizabeth Grothe, has been eagerly awaited by her many fans. Chef Grothe, AKA Ol’ Liz, is known for her special brand of humor that has been on display in pop-ups like Couch Café, Boodle Night (at Oloroso, where she used to work), Western Sizzlin’ night at High Street, and more. Whether she’s serving up catfish ‘n grits, chicken fried steak, fettucine alfredo (she knows her pasta well, having been a sous chef at Fiorella), or who knows what, she never fails to surprise and delight her diners. Keep in mind too that Ol’ Liz is a Filipina chef, so some of that rich culinary heritage is likely to find its way into Scampi’s menu, as well as influences from the American South and West, as she is an Oklahoma native. The real special ingredient? While her food is spectacularly well-prepared, she doesn’t take herself too seriously…or at all seriously…and knows how to create a seriously fun environment. This explains why people flock to her pop-ups and why we are so excited to discover Scampi. See you there!
