Poeta
5-Course Elevated Italian Tasting Event
Opened just this past December, this rare eatery inspired by poetry lives within The Frances Modern Inn on historic 11th Street, and was nominated by CultureMap as Austin’s “Best New Restaurant.” Executive Chef Ian Thurwachter, who was named to Zagat’s “30 Under 30” list in 2014, is an Austin native who is self-taught in his profession, specializing in whole animal butchery and sustainable cooking practices. In addition to co-owning Intero Restaurant, his career includes cooking with some of the city’s most well-known institutions, like Vespaio, Lamberts and Jeffrey’s. At Poeta, you can expect to find flawlessly prepared dishes like fried artichokes, tuna carpaccio, gnocchi with lamb confit, tomato butter, and crispy onion, and housemade meatballs with peperonata, creamy polenta, and marjoram. Maybe leave room too at the end for the wafflegato with maple gelato and espresso butter? It all sounds molto bene, so we are excited to visit and excited to see you there!
About the Host:

Ian Thurwachter
Executive Chef & Co-Owner
Chef Thurwachter spent his childhood watching Rick Bayless and Jacques Pepin on PBS, but was quickly entranced by the ingredient-driven methodology of Italian cuisine. After starting his culinary career, he went on to hone his craft at well recognized Austin institutions including Vespaio, Enoteca, Jeffrey’s, and Lambert’s. He opened Intero with his wife Krystal in January 2018.
