Nuyores
5-Course Modern Peruvian Tasting Event
Debuted just this past August, this West Village eatery is a celebration of South American flavors through a New York lens — bold, lively, and made to share. Lima-born Chef Oscar Lorenzzi, formerly of the popular East Harlem Peruvian restaurant Contento, has a stellar background. He cooked at Man Ray, L’Escale, and Gaia, moved on to lead Marseille and Nice Matin as Chef de Cuisine, and then took on the role of Executive Chef of Graydon Carter’s renowned Waverly Inn, where he ran the kitchen for two years. At Nuyores, he presides over a menu that features such fare as quinotto (quinoa risotto), arroz con pato (rice with duck), lamb ribs with anticucho, pork belly with peanut sauce, black chimichurri octopus, ceviche, of course, and intriguing Chifa—i.e. Chinese Peruvian—dishes. “If you’re looking for the most exciting recent restaurant openings, Nuyores definitely needs to be on your radar,” says OpenTable, which named it to its list of “Hot New Openings.” Well, it’s certainly on Tasting Collective’s radar, so we are excited to visit here and to find out more about Peruvian cooking.
