Normandie

Day 2: 5-Course Avant-American Tasting Series

Opened in 2018, this French bistro on Southeast Ankeny Street immediately jumped onto Eater's List of "38 Essential PDX Restaurants" and, since then, has garnered places on Eater's "Best Seafood in Portland" List and "Best French Restaurants in Portland," as well as Resy's 2024 list of "Amazing Women-Powered Restaurants in Portland." Executive Chef/Owner Heather Kintler spent 16 years as Executive Sous Chef at The Veritable Quandary before joining Side Yard Farm & Kitchen as Sous Chef and Co-Farm Manager. That experience deepened her understanding of utilizing every part of vegetables and herbs, from root to seed, fruit, and flower. At Normandie, she showcases the abundance of the Pacific Northwest with dishes like charred octopus with pickled kumquats, crispy duck confit with chicories, hazelnuts, and citrus, poached prawn terrine with green apple and tarragon, and chili-glazed cured pork with charred cabbage. And then perhaps miso-caramel ice cream for dessert or brûléed challah bread pudding? "Eclectic and chic,” says Eater, and so we are excited to visit and chat with Chef Kintler, who will share her food ideas with us.
