Nakato

Day 1: 5-Course Opulent Omakase Tasting Series

How does a restaurant stay in business for 53 YEARS on today’s tumultuous restaurant scene? Well, by committing to excellence and keeping things fresh. In 2023, Atlanta Magazine named Nakato as one of the "75 Best Restaurants in Atlanta", while readers named it "Best Sushi in Atlanta" and "Best Japanese Restaurant" in Atlanta. No mean feat, but perhaps not a surprising one either, given the Nakato family has prided itself on showcasing the best of Japanese cuisine from the very beginning, placing an emphasis on seasonal ingredients prepared with skillful artistry to create spectacular sushi, hibachi and other authentic dishes. With fish overnighted from the waters of Japan, and their ethos based entirely on the Japanese word, Omotenashi (which means "hospitality"), the spirit of Nakato is evident from the moment you walk into this beautiful restaurant, which Atlanta Magazine calls “a grande dame of dining in Atlanta.” We are so looking forward to our visit here and to experiencing Japanese food at its finest. We hope you can join us!

About the Hosts:

Yoshifusa Kinjo

Executive Chef

Okinawan-born Chef Yoshifusa Kinjo first immigrated to the US in 1986 to help open a restaurant owned by a family friend in Ohio. After meeting his wife and moving briefly to Florida, the couple moved to Atlanta in 1989 so he could join the team at Nakato as sous chef. He quickly proved invaluable rising through the ranks to recently become Executive Chef.

Sachi Nakato Takahara

Owner

An Atlanta native, Sachiyo (“Sachi”) Nakato Takahara represents the third generation of Nakato women to run the culinary icon, which was founded by her grandmother in 1972. During the past two decades as General Manager, she has made her own mark on Atlanta’s quintessential Japanese restaurant, ensuring Nakato keeps up with the latest culinary trends and brining back unique plateware from her travels. Through her guidance, Nakato has become a large supporter of Japanese cultural awareness, orchestrating a symbiotic partnership with JapanFest and the Japanese American Society.
