Mexta
5-Course Elevated Pan-Mexican Tasting Event
Opened in March of 2024, this Michelin Guide Recommended eatery in Downtown’s historic Littlefield Building brings truly elevated Mexican cuisine to a city that has no shortage of Mexican restaurants. Chef Mikel Alonso Garcia comes to Austin as the acclaimed chef and proprietor of Biko, a Michelin-Starred restaurant in Mexico City. He is also the head of the Culinary Institute of Southwest University in El Paso. Mexta, which is a mash-up of “Mex” and “ATX,” offers familiar favorites, like guacamole and ceviche, but also lesser-seen regional favorites, like pork belly with Oaxacan peanut sauce and tikin xic salmon with xnipec salsa. And it’s all served up under a stunning wooden ceiling inspired by a full moon ceremony in Tamaulipas. “A stylish spot” is how the Michelin Guide describes Mexta, “offering refined takes on classic Mexican preparations…Sauces especially impress.” We are so looking forward to discovering Mexta and to hearing more from Chef Alonso Garcia about his food ideas.
