Day 1: 5-Course Palate-Bending Pleasures Tasting Series

This 110-year old members only institution located in the heart of South Philadelphia underwent a total revamp in 2019. Now, it is opening itself up for our exclusive Tasting Collective event, and we will get to see just why Eater named it to its 2022 List of “Best in South Philly.” Philadelphia-born Chef Edmund “Eddie” Konrad gained formative experience at institutions like Le Bec-Fin in Philadelphia and Del Posto in New York before returning home as Chef de Cuisine at Laurel. National audiences then met him on Season 16 of Top Chef, where his craftsmanship and straight-ahead style stood out. His menu at Messina Social Club features signature dishes like arancini with truffle risotto and mushroom marmalade, charred broccolini with fried egg aioli and hazelnut, rigatoni carbonara, campanelle with roasted corn, crab, and olive, and desserts like butterscotch budino and peaches and cream with corn blondie and whipped marscapone. “Some of the most innovative food and drinks in South Philly,” raves Infatuation, while Resy says “dining at Messina always feels like a dinner party.” We’re excited to have some of that and hope you can join us!

Chef de Cuisine

Chef Edmund “Eddie” Konrad is a Philadelphia-born chef whose fine-dining pedigree shapes the culinary voice of Messina Social Club. After training in rigorous kitchens up and down the East Coast, including institutions like Le Bec-Fin in Philadelphia and Del Posto in New York, he returned home to Philly, where he honed his craft as chef de cuisine at Laurel. He previously competed in season 16 of Top Chef.

  1. Cured Salmon Crudo

    capers, pickled lemon, smoked buttermilk vinaigrette, trout roe

  2. Crispy Potato Terrine

    herb koji butter, roe, sour cream, cured egg yolk, chive

  3. Dark Rye Gnocchi Sardi

    beet relish, pickled mustard seeds, pumpernickel, horseradish, dill

  4. Roasted Chicken Involtini

    chicken sausage, eggplant caponata, charred broccoli rabe, confit tomato, artichoke

  5. Tiramisu

    lady fingers, amaro, chocolate, whipped marscapone

  • Fish: There is Salmon and Roe/caviar in Course 1 and Roe/caviar in Course 2. Substitutions will be provided.

  • Eggs: There are Eggs in Course 2. Substitutions will be provided.

  • Peanuts: This menu is peanut-free.

  • Tree Nuts: This menu is tree nut-free.

  • Alliums:
    • Other alliums: There is Scallion (Raw) and Chive in Course 2. Substitutions will be provided.

  • Mushrooms: This menu is mushroom-free.
