Day 1: 5-Course Elevated Southern Tasting Series

Opened a year ago in August near Logan Circle, this “New American South” eatery jumped right onto Axios’ 2024 List of “Hotspots to Visit in DC” What’s more, Hamilton Johnson, formerly with high-end Gravitas and Honeysuckle, but probably best-known for his tenure at the much-missed Vidalia in the West End, was on Axios’ List of “Hottest Up-and-Coming Chefs.” At Mallard, Chef Johnson, a native of South Carolina, is overseeing a menu with such signature dishes as Southern fried green tomatoes, Charleston crab tartine, cast-iron North Carolina mountain trout with smoke trout roe and boiled peanut vinaigrette, pork porterhouse with zucchini, basil butter, and summer berry preserves, shrimp & grits with smoked pork and scallion, and desserts like banana puddin’ with white chocolate, Cracker Jacks, and Makers Mark bourbon caramel and “coffee & cigarettes,” which is a malted chocolate mousse with macadamia praline, tobacco caramel, and espresso ice cream. “Awesome Southern fare,” says Washington City Paper, which, to our ears, are the magic words. Hamilton Johnson

Executive Chef

A South Carolina native, Chef Hamilton Johnson honed his craft at Michelin-Starred Gravitas and Honeysuckle before taking the helm at Mallard. He is best known for his time at Vidalia in the West End, where he trained under James Beard Award-Winning Chef Jeff Buben.

Do guests need to be of a certain age to attend this event?
Yes. All attendees must be 21+ to gain entry.
Does this restaurant allow BYOB?
No. This restaurant is a non-BYO establishment. Outside alcohol will not be permitted at this event.
What is the event ticket cancellation/refund policy?
Restaurants purchase the food for our events 14 days before the event date, at which point we are on the hook for the cost of your ticket. As such, we are not able to offer refunds (or credits towards future events) for any cancellation requests submitted within 14 days of the event date. We will, however, issue full refunds for all cancellation requests submitted at least 14 days before the event date. All cancellation requests must be submitted via email to support@tastingcollective.com.
What dietary restrictions/food allergies can be accommodated at this event?
Due to the large-format nature of our events, restaurants are not able to accommodate all dietary restrictions/food allergies or make any menu adjustments based on food preferences (e.g distaste for specific ingredients/flavor profiles).
