Lonely Siren
Day 1: 5-Course Portal to Portugal Tasting Series
Opened at the end of 2023, this Portuguese eatery has appeared on Seattle Times’ List of “Best Openings” and Eater’s List of “Best Restaurants Near Pike Place Market.” Chef Randal Ventura learned the fundamentals of French cuisine at Le Cordon Bleu Seattle, and began working the line at the fine-dining Copperleaf Restaurant at Cedarbrook Lodge under notable chef Mark Bodinet. He then moved on to work as a private dining chef at Aqua by El Gaucho before being tapped to head up the kitchen at the more casual Pub 70 next door. At Lonely Siren, he is turning out such exceptional dishes as grilled whole sardines, pasteis de baclhau (salt cod fritters), porco a alentejana (braised pork cheeks with clams), and batatas bravas, a 17-layer block of wafer-thin sliced potatoes and shredded manchego, parbaked and pressed for 24 hours before being fired in a wood oven and served with smoked onion soubise and red pepper-based bravas sauce. Now that is some good eating! We’re excited for the opportunity to visit here and find out more about Portuguese cuisine. Hope to see you there!
