5-Course Summoning the Slavic Spirit Tasting Event

This legendary Buckman eatery, which opened in 2014 and was promptly named to GQ's list of the nation's "25 Best Restaurants," is the creation of Chef/Co-Owner Bonnie Morales, who grew up in Chicago, the first-generation daughter of Belarusian immigrants. Chef Morales, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, honed her skills in several of New York and Chicago's Michelin-starred restaurants, including Tru, where she met her future husband and business partner, Israel Morales. Together, they opened Kachka, their dream restaurant devoted to food inspired by Russia and former Soviet republics such as Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, and Uzbekistan. Eater named Kachka to its list of Best Restaurants in America in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, as well as it's 2026 List of "38 Essentials". Meanwhile, Chef Morales was named a Rising Star Chef by StarChefs and a Finalist for the James Beard Award for "Best Chef: Northwest". All to say, we are eager to visit, sample the pelmeni, kubdari, and golubtsi (Google it!), and hear from Chef Morales about the glories of Russian cooking.

The daughter of Belarusian immigrants, Chef Bonnie Morales grew up in Chicago and trained at the Culinary Institute of America before setting up roots in Portland. She also previously honed her craft in several NYC and Chicago Michelin-Starred restaurants (including 2-Michelin-Starred Tru). In 2018, she was named a "Rising Star Chef" by StarChefs, as well as a James Beard "Best Chef: Northwest" Finalist.


The Lineup


Courses #1 & #5 will be individually plated; courses #2, #3 and #4 will be served family-style. This menu will be Shellfish, Peanut & Mushroom Free. For a list of restrictions/allergies Chef is accommodating, click here.

  2. Brisket Croquettes

    rye breading, freshly shaved horseradish sauce, pickled apple

  3. Potato Vareniki

    ukrainian-style dumplings, smoked trout roe beurre blanc, everything spice

  4. Golubtsi

    beef, pork & lamb cabbage rolls, tomato-lingonberry sauce

  5. Buckwheat Plombir

    russian-style ice cream, white chocolate magic shell, blackcurrant compote

Due to the large-format nature of this event, all accommodation requests must be Added To Your Profile, or Emailed To Us no later than 72 hours before the event. Requests submitted after this date will not be accommodated. Additionally, Kachka will only be accommodating certain dietary restrictions/food allergies, and they are unable to make menu adjustments based on distaste for specific ingredients/flavor profiles.
