Hugo's

5-Course Memories of Mexico City Tasting Event

Opened in 2002, this Montrose veteran is still turning out spectacular Mexican food that continues to land it on “Best Of” Lists, including Time Out’s “Best Restaurants in Houston” (2022) and Eater’s “15 Essential Tex-Mex Restaurants” (2023). Chef Hugo Ortega, winner of James Beard's "Best Chef: Southwest" Award in 2017, is the culinary force behind it all, and we love what he has to say about Mexican cuisine. "The food is as light and fresh as a seafood cocktail prepared by fishermen on the beach; as deep and complex as the moles of Oaxaca; and as earthy as the simplest handmade corn tortilla." Housed in a 1925 building designed and built by celebrated architect Joseph Finger, also responsible for Houston's Art Deco-style City Hall, Hugo’s offers a menu that features traditional dishes from the many regions of Mexico, all made from scratch by our host and Exec Chef, Marc Rocha. Consider such fare as tamales with slow-roasted cochinita pibil, pan-seared scallops over sweet cornbread and sautéed spinach with poblano cream, and the cabrito of pulled roasted goat with roasted cactus pads. And make sure to save room as well for the unbelievable desserts, some made with house-ground chocolate. “Houston’s best Mexican restaurant,” raves Houston Chronicle, and naturally we are primed to visit!

About the Host:

Marc Rocha

Executive Chef

Born and raised in Houston, Chef Marc Rocha graduated from the Arts Institute of Houson and quickly became a protégé of James Beard Award-Winning Chef Hugo Ortego. After rising through the ranks at Caracol, he was promoted in April 2023 to Executive Chef at Hugo's.

Yes. All attendees must be 21+ to gain entry.

Yep! For this event, guest tickets are $85 + tax & tip, and you can bring up to 3 guests. Please note, guests are not allowed to attend unaccompanied by a member.
What is the event ticket cancellation/refund policy?
Restaurants purchase the food for our events 14 days before the event date, at which point we are on the hook for the cost of your ticket. As such, we are not able to offer refunds (or credits towards future events) for any cancellation requests submitted within 14 days of the event date. We will, however, issue full refunds for all cancellation requests submitted at least 14 days before the event date. All cancellation requests must be submitted via email to support@tastingcollective.com.
