5-Course Palate-Bending Pleasures Tasting Event

Opened in 2021 in the Milwaukee Junction neighborhood, Freya has appeared on such coveted Best Of Lists as New York Times’ “America’s 50 Most Exciting Restaurants” (2022) and Eater’s “38 Essential Detroit Restaurants” (2025). What’s more, Chef/Owner Doug Hewitt was a 2023 James Beard “Outstanding Restaurateur” Semi-Finalist and a 2024 James Beard “Best Chef: Great Lakes” Semi-Finalist. His menu explains why, with such spectacular dishes as venison with truffle pavé, shiitakes, huckleberries, and pistachios, ravioli with sunchokes, rhubarb, ramps, black garlic, and oyster mushrooms, walleye with olives and arugula pesto, and Berkshire pork chop with creamed kale, sorghum popcorn, peaches, and shiitakes. Luscious desserts too like chocolate kirsch baba and berry madeleine cake. “Creative, wild, and audacious but down-to-earth…each dish is perfectly seasoned,” said Hour Detroit, when they named Freya its 2024 “Restaurant of the Year.” We’re so looking forward to our visit here and to the opportunity to chat with Chef Hewitt about his inventive food ideas. At the helm of both Chartreuse Kitchen & Cocktails and Freya, Chef Doug Hewitt was named a 2023 James Beard Semi-Finalist for "Outstanding Restaurateur" in addition to a 2024 James Beard “Best Chef: Great Lakes” Semi-Finalist. He honed his craft at restaurants all over Michigan before Freya, which was named one of New York Times' "50 Best Restaurants and Hour Detroit’s "Restaurant of the Year" in 2024.

Do guests need to be of a certain age to attend this event?
Yes. All attendees must be 21+ to gain entry.
Does this restaurant allow BYOB?
No. This restaurant is a non-BYO establishment. Outside alcohol will not be permitted at this event.

What is the event ticket cancellation/refund policy?
Restaurants purchase the food for our events 14 days before the event date, at which point we are on the hook for the cost of your ticket. As such, we are not able to offer refunds (or credits towards future events) for any cancellation requests submitted within 14 days of the event date. We will, however, issue full refunds for all cancellation requests submitted at least 14 days before the event date. All cancellation requests must be submitted via email to support@tastingcollective.com.
What dietary restrictions/food allergies can be accommodated at this event?
Due to the large-format nature of our events, restaurants are not able to accommodate all dietary restrictions/food allergies or make any menu adjustments based on food preferences (e.g distaste for specific ingredients/flavor profiles). This restaurant will be offering substitutions exclusively for the following restrictions/allergies: Vegetarian, Pescatarian, Sheep Milk Halloumi, Gluten, Fish, Shellfish, Mushroom. They are NOT accommodating restrictions related to the following ingredients: Milk/Cream, Butter, Chive, Garlic (cooked), Onion (cooked), Onion (raw), Scallion, Shallot.
