Fond

Day 1: 5-Course Avant-American Tasting Series

Opened this past September on the first floor of Santander Tower, this deeply satisfying eatery vaulted right onto such lists as CultureMap’s “5 Best New Spots,” Eater’s “13 Essential Downtown Restaurants,” and Resy’s “Hit List.” Chefs Jennie Kelley and Brandon Moore are fixtures in the Dallas food community. Chef Jennie was the brainchild behind FRANK, the renowned Deep Ellum underground restaurant that was hailed by the Chicago Tribune as one of the hardest-to-get reservations in the country. Chef Brandon helmed the kitchen at uptown's Ocean Prime and created The Pickling Collective. Together, their "Better Half" pop-ups around the metroplex were noted for their instant sell-outs. At Fond, their first brick-and-mortar enterprise, diners sup on such fare as meatballs with ricotta and fresh basil, Parisian ham with fermented honey and hazelnuts, fried olives with Calabrian sausage and aioli, and those awesome pizzas. “Chic…sophisticated,” says CultureMap, and may we add ‘delicious’? (And if you’re wondering about the name, “fond’ refers to the savory caramelized bits left in a saucepan after the food is cooked. Go know!)
