Estes
Day 2: 5-Course Whimsical Italian Tasting Series
This esteemed Italian eatery, which has been in operation since 2019 and was named to Oregonian’s List of “40 Most Notable New Restaurants” at launch, opened at Broder North this past January—and promptly landed on Resy’s “Hit List.” Chef/Owner Patrick McKee learned the ins and outs of Italian cooking from his Nonna and his mother. When his grandparents moved to Brookings, Oregon, in 1977, Chef McKee and his sister would visit them in the summers and have an even more intensive course in Italian cookery. He earned his culinary stripes working for 11 years at Paley’s Place, then the short-lived Perlot, and then formed a productive collaboration with Jane Smith of the wine bar Dame. Now, at Estes, he delights diners with dishes like polenta and soft egg with Marsala mushrooms and shaved truffle, butternut squash & ricotta ravioli with brown butter and sage-hazelnut pesto, squid ink bucatini with marinated prawns, and a supernal version of the beloved cacio e pepe. We’re very much looking forward to our time here, to sampling Chef McKee’s dishes, and to hearing all about his food ideas. Join us!
