Caracol
5-Course Commemorating Coastal Mexico Tasting Event
Opened way back in 2013, this popular Uptown eatery has kept things fresh over the years, landing on such 2025 lists as Houston Chronicle’s “Top 30 Mexican in Houston,” Infatuation’s “Best Seafood Restaurants in Houston,” and Forbes’ “Houston’s Top Four Latin American Restaurants.” Hailing from the James Beard Award-nominated culinary team of Chef Hugo Ortega and his wife Tracy Vaught, who gave the city the acclaimed Hugo’s, Carocol (which means “snail”) features a menu that is a culinary tour along the Mexican coasts, which are shared by 16 of the country’s states. Here, diners find all kinds of crudos and ceviches, mains like cremoso de camarón (wood-grilled chile-rubbed shrimp), callo de hacha (pan-seared sea scallops with roasted cauliflower), meat dishes like costillas de res (braised short ribs) and duck leg confit with mole xico, and scrumptious desserts like passion fruit flan and churros with dulce de leche. “Stunning,” says Forbes, while Houston Chronicle calls Caracol “a Houston classic…the flavors are emphatic and the experience joyful.” Well, who among us can’t use a little more joy in our lives? See you there!
