Buenos Aires Cafe

5-Course Argentine Heritage Tasting Event

Established in 2009 by Reina Morris and her daughter, Paola Guerrero-Smith, this East Austin mainstay has lovingly preserved the traditions that have made this restaurant so popular. Here, you’ll find Argentine tapas like charred provolone with fresh herbs, house-marinated olives with citrus zest, and all manner of empanadas. Then move onto grilled meats drizzled with signature chimichurri sauce, exceptionally fresh seafood, and vegetarian options. Eater has named Buenos Aires Café to its list of “The 38 Essential ATX Restaurants, Spring 2022” while the Austin Chronicle calls it “one of the best dining options in the neighborhood.” Be sure to save room for dessert as well, because it is sensational here. We will be taking over the restaurant for this event, and Chef Morris will be in and out of the kitchen to answer your questions and discuss the culinary traditions of the land of the tango.

Executive Chef/Co-Owner

A Buenos Aires native, Chef Morris attended Instituto Gastronomico Argentino, hoping to hone in on her culinary skills that she already developed through helping her mother prepare dinner. In 1997, she emigrated to Austin with her family. Already a talented chef, Chef Morris decided to further her culinary career, and enrolled in Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts (formerly known as Texas Culinary Academy), where she graduated with honors and served as the school's board of directors. In 2005, Chef Morris opened her first restaurant on South First Street (now closed) in 2005, which initially served pastries and empanadas before including staples from her native Argentina. In 2009, she opened the East Austin location with her daughter, Paola Guerrero-Smith.
