Black Duck Spirits & Hearth
Day 1: 5-Course Wood-Fired Flavors Tasting Series
Opened July of 2024 in NE Minneapolis, Black Duck Spirits & Hearth has quickly become one of Twin Cities’ most talked-about new restaurants, claiming spots on Eater’s 2025 “Best New in Twin Cities” List and Mpls.St.Paul’s 2025 “Best Restaurants” List, as well as a Minnesota Monthly “Best of 2024” Award Win for “Best Open Fire Restaurant”. Chef/Owner Jason Sawicki (whose top-notch résumé includes Restaurant Alma, Lyn 65, and James Beard Nominated Popol Vuh) here marries his Polish background with his training in celebrated Mexican restaurants for an eclectic and dazzling wood-fired experience. Highlights include panko crusted eggplant with avocado herb mayo and a sundried tomato tapenade, duck (what else?) served two ways (breast and confit) with wild rice cabbage roll and plum chutney, and smoked half-chicken with chimichurri, beet horseradish cream, and cabbage. Save room too for desserts like masa corn cake (with corn ice cream and fresh blueberries) and the tantalizing Choco Flan (with candied hazelnut, coconut, and fresh berries). With its laid-back bistro feel and open-hearth soul, Black Duck is Chef Sawicki’s heartfelt ode to perseverance, flavor, and Twin Cities’ dining spirit. We hope you can join us!
