Bar Gabi
5-Course Romanian Renaissance Tasting Event
We bet it’s been a while (if ever) since you’ve had Romanian food, but this outstanding eatery in Hazel Park, which opened last October, is destination-worthy either way. It's landed on Detroit Free Press’ List of “Top 10 New Restaurants”, as well as Eater’s List of “4 Openings to Know” (and the buzz just keeps growing). Bar Gabi comes to us from Romanian-born Gabriel and Gabriela Botezan, a husband-and-wife culinary team who unite savory and sweet, Old and New World in an experience defined by their instinctive and uncompromising hospitality. Here, diners discover intriguing and delicious dishes like langos (fried dough with feta, sour cream, and garlic), piept de pork Ardelenesc (braised pork belly with chestnut puree and pickled red onion), Transylvanian goulash, saramura de pesce (salt-baked striped sea bass with roasted peppers, tomatoes, garlic, and polenta), sarmale (pork and rice-stuffed pickled cabbage), and luscious desserts like cremes (caramelized pastry with vanilla cream) and albinita (layered honey cake with crème fraiche and honeycomb). Join us as we experience some very special food and chat with Gabriel and Gabriela about the culinary traditions of their homeland.
