Day 2: 5-Course Ode To Oaxaca Tasting Series

Opened in 2020, this Oak Cliff cantina (connected to popular Xaman Café) has been called “Dallas’ most underrated restaurant” by Dallas Observer. They promptly did their best to help fix that, adding it to its list of “Top 100 Restaurants” in 2023, and in 2024, Esquire named it to its list of “Best in America.” The word ‘ayahuasca’ roughly translates to “a line to the soul,” but rest assured, the stomach is equally attended to at this exceptional eatery. Under the aegis of Chef Monica Andrade Lopez, the Oaxacan-influenced menu features exciting dishes like fideo seco (sauteed artisanal noodles in red bell pepper oil with avocado and shrimp croqueta), baja tuna taco, duck carnitas empanada, and cochinita pibil enmoladas (pulled pork with mole sauce). Toothsome desserts abound too, like their decadent coffee flan and, of course,churros. It’s all served up in a cozy, candlelit setting bedecked with art from Mexico so indeed this whole evening promises to be like a quick getaway to Oaxaca (one of our favorite cities in the world). Executive Chef

Chef Monica Andrade Lopez, who hails originally from the coast of Veracruz, Mexico, began her culinary journey at the age of 19, though she mastered the fundamentals of Mexican cuisine at an early age. Her path reflects a balance between heritage and professional growth: a chef who honors tradition while continuously exploring new ways to share the depth and richness of Mexican gastronomy.

Diego Monsalve

Beverage Director

A Venezuelan-born beverage creator, Diego Monsalve grew up surrounded by the flavors and traditions of Latin America. He now carries that cultural richness into everything he crafts, from specialty coffee to modern cocktails, with a style rooted in storytelling and drawing on memory, history, and the natural world.

Do guests need to be of a certain age to attend this event?
Yes. All attendees must be 21+ to gain entry.
Does this restaurant allow BYOB?
No. This restaurant is a non-BYO establishment. Outside alcohol will not be permitted at this event.

What is the event ticket cancellation/refund policy?
Restaurants purchase the food for our events 14 days before the event date, at which point we are on the hook for the cost of your ticket. As such, we are not able to offer refunds (or credits towards future events) for any cancellation requests submitted within 14 days of the event date. We will, however, issue full refunds for all cancellation requests submitted at least 14 days before the event date. All cancellation requests must be submitted via email to support@tastingcollective.com.
What dietary restrictions/food allergies can be accommodated at this event?
Due to the large-format nature of our events, restaurants are not able to accommodate all dietary restrictions/food allergies or make any menu adjustments based on food preferences (e.g distaste for specific ingredients/flavor profiles). This restaurant will be offering substitutions exclusively for the following restrictions/allergies: Vegetarian, Pescatarian, Dairy, Gluten, Fish, Nut. They are NOT accommodating restrictions related to the following ingredients: Garlic (cooked), Onion (cooked). If you have any of these restrictions/allergies, please make sure to note this in your profile (in the “Event Preferences” section) either before or right after purchasing your tickets so Chef can prepare accordingly.
