Opened back in 2020, this delightful eatery in the Lower Garden District has become a neighborhood mainstay thanks to the special care they take with their specialty: good seafood and good local purveyor goods. In fact, Eater named The Bower to its 2024 List of “Best Seafood in NOLA.” Executive Chef Marcus Woodham was born in Bayou Goula, Louisiana. After helping to open Galatoire’s Bistro in Baton Rouge and John Besh’s Luke in New Orleans, he became Executive Chef at Tivoli & Lee in 2013 and assumed this position at Tujague’s Restaurant in 2016. In 2018, he joined Bar Frances, bringing his flare for southern specialties with him. That flare is in full evidence at The Bower, where he works with the best of the region to create a distinctive menu that includes such fare as avocado panzanella, lion’s mane mushroom cake, buttered lamb meatballs with tomato sauce and pomegranate seeds, and gulf fish piccata with caramelized onions and chestnut mushrooms, all served up in a plant-bedecked environment that bespeaks the restaurant’s name.
