Tawla is the realization of owner Azhar Hashem’s long-held dream. Hashem grew up in Amman, Jordan and immigrated with her family to the East Coast when she was in her teens. Despite embarking on a straight and narrow career path that culminated in a job at Google (see her bio below), her dream refused to go away. Hashem longed to open a restaurant that would celebrate the home cooked foods of Greece, Turkey, the Levant, and Iran. In 2016, Hashem recruited Chef Joseph Magidow (see his bio below) to help turn her vision into a reality. Fast forward two years and Tawla is now widely recognized throughout San Francisco and beyond for its incredibly inventive yet refined take on Middle Eastern cuisine. Did we mention that Thrillist selected Tawla as one of the 12 Best New Restaurants in America in 2016?!?
