In late 2017, husband-and-wife team, Chef Nick Cobarruvias and Anna Sager Cobarruvias, opened Son’s Addition, bringing something wholly fresh and highly personal to the Mission. The bold aesthetic of Son’s Addition recalls a chic Mexico City eatery and its contemporary palette of local flavors is enlivened by slow cooking, pickling, and fermenting. The menu draws upon influences felt from Chef Cobarruvias’ Mexican father, his French-Irish mother, and his Texas upbringing, but also features notes that come from trips he has taken to Southeast Asia. Having mastered his craft under acclaimed chefs Traci des Jardins and Jennifer Puccio at Marlowe, Chef Cobarruvias transforms local California fare with bold global touches. “From the moment I walked in the door,” wrote Michael Bauer in the San Francisco Chronicle, “I had the feeling that this…was the culmination of a dream the chef needed to share.”
