About
Opened only this past July, this Southeast Asian eatery (tucked away in the East Side’s hip Frances Modern Inn) has vaulted right onto both Eater’s and Tribeza’s Lists of “Best New Restaurants in Austin.” Chef Laila Bazahm was born in the Philippines and worked for J.P. Morgan and Deutsche Bank before she recognized that her true passion lay in cooking… especially the dishes of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and her home country. After earning her stripes in the kitchens of Chef Emmanuel Stroobant’s Michelin-Starred Saint Pierre and Michelin-Starred L’Atelier Joël Robuchon, she opened Hawker Street Food Bar at The Post in Houston and then El Raval in Austin. At Siti, which means “lady” in Malaysian, she's now exciting diners with such dishes as charcoal-fired pork belly, chili crab & lobster, 12-hour braised beef cheeks with lemongrass and coconut curry, wok-fried rice noodles with confit duck leg, shrimp, and Chinese sausage, assorted satays. Some over-the-top (and out-of-this world) desserts too like teh-terik misu (Malaysian pulled tea tiramisu) and oreo miso ice cream.
