About
A true veteran of the volatile restaurant scene (it opened in 2014 after all), this Williamsburg eatery has appeared on such lists as Infatuation’s “12 Perfect Restaurants” and Grub Street’s “Absolute Best in Williamsburg.” What’s more, chef/owner Polo Dobkin has been nominated three times for a James Beard “Best Chef: NYC” Award. He and his wife, Stephanie Lempert, opened Meadowsweet in Williamsburg in 2014 with the goal of creating a restaurant that felt like an extension of home—albeit one led by a chef who graduated from the French Culinary Institute with honors and previously served as executive chef at the Michelin-starred Dressler. The restaurant went on to earn a Michelin star consecutively from 2015–2021 before evolving during COVID to better serve the local community and neighborhood guests. Today, Meadowsweet continues to offer warm hospitality alongside contemporary American cuisine with Mediterranean influences, focused on seasonality and locally sourced ingredients. At Meadowsweet, Dobkin offers starters like crispy baby artichokes and Roman gnocchi with braised duck ragu and fresh ricotta, alongside mains such as sea bass with white asparagus, morels, and preserved lemon and spiced duck breast with grilled escarole, mandarin orange, and Castelvetrano olives. Infatuation puts it bluntly: “This place makes us feel good, and we want to go back. And maybe that’s all you need to know.
