About

Opened last May, this Catalan and Basque-inspired eatery in Brush Park zoomed right onto such Lists as Eater’s “Hottest in Detroit,” Resy’s “Top Detroit Restaurants,” and Detroit Magazine’s “Best New Restaurants.” The team that brought Motor City the subterranean speakeasy Shelby has situated Leña in a handsome setting whose dominant feature is its open-air kitchen. Within those confines, an exciting menu of dishes emerges, including anchovy skewers, blonde gazpacho, octopus and charred scallions, middleneck clams a la plancha, chorizo-stuffed half chicken, and smoked mushrooms tartines. And, of course, what would a Basque-inspired restaurant be without Basque cheesecake? It’s all in the capable hands of Executive Chef Mike Conrad, a New York City transplant who became a Detroit restaurant veteran, with stints at Magnet in Core City, Corktown's Takoi, and Milwaukee Junction's Oak and Reel. MetroTimes says that Le “hot stuff…outstanding” while the Detroit News raves that the food is “so, so good.”
