About

Kalaya, the brand-new Thai restaurant in Bella Vista, is the collaborative creation of two women: Chef “Nok” Suntaranon, a graduate of the French Culinary Institute in New York, who spent years hosting private parties and catering special events, and My-Le Vuoung, a Vietnamese-born veteran restaurant manager who has worked with some of the biggest names in the restaurant world, including Jean-Georges, Alain Ducasse, and Mario Batali. Their friendship has brought forth this homey little establishment with food that tastes like it comes from your Thai grandmother’s kitchen. Here, you can discover dishes like toon tang (a golden pouch filled with potato, curry, and sweet chili sauce) or moo pad kapi (stir-fried pork in shrimp paste). Just in July, Eater Philadelphia placed Kalaya on its list of “The Hottest New Restaurants in Philly,” and Philadelphia Magazine raves, “This is the Thai restaurant Philly has been waiting for — the one that will define the top end of this cuisine in this city going forward.”
