About
Opened just this past May, this Taiwanese eatery in East Midtown jumped right onto Eater’s List of “Best New Restaurants in Manhattan,” while Infatuation singled out the oyster omelet on its List of “Best Dishes in NYC.” Born in Taiwan but raised in Queens, Chef/Owner Tony Inn draws upon his experience at the 3-Michelin-Starred Masa, where he was Chef de Cuisine, and Morimoto, for whom he opened a branch in Waikiki, Hawaii, to create his love letter to Taiwanese cuisine. His menu offers such indelible items as century egg sesame peanut noodles, crispy soft-shelled shrimp, grilled Taiwanese sweet sausage, salt-cured whole mackerel, supernal beef noodle soup, and killer desserts like soy sauce tiramisu, sweet potato crème brûlèe, tomato granita (yes, you read that right), and, of course, Taiwanese shaved ice. “The riches of Taipei’s night markets and comfort foods…are executed by a chef who’s been practicing his Japanese knife skills for 26 years,” is how Resy sums things up.
