About
Opened a year ago this September, this West Town eatery that celebrates the richness and diversity of Latin American cuisine was immediately named to Chicago Magazine’s “10 Hottest in Chicago” list. This is the first solo effort from Ecuadorian-born Chef/Owner Freddy Orellana, who previously cooked at the dear, departed Mk before becoming a partner in Dell ‘Rooster, another West Town favorite. Chi-Latin is an ode to the city’s distinctive and multi-generational LatinX culture, with a menu packed with Central and South American flavors drawn from countries including Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Argentina, and Ecuador. Consider dishes like chuleta de puerco (pork chop with sweet potato cake, brussels sprouts, and pineapple chutney), pechuga de pato (duck breast with sweet potato puree, creamed spinach, and chile pasilla sauce), and humitas (Ecuadorian sweet corn tamales with white cheese and pineapple sauce). We are excited to visit here, and to chat with Chef Orellana, who, by the way, started his restaurant career as a dishwasher at Charlie Trotter’s where he then became a cook. It’s the American Dream, still at work!
