DAY 2: 6-Course Nouveau Peruvian Dinner Series

Did you know that two of the top ten in Eater’s list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants are located in Lima, Peru? Peruvian cuisine is all the rage these days, with magnificent cebiche (a.k.a “ceviche”), significant Chinese influences, and food traditions from regions that range from the Pacific coast to the Andes to the Amazonian basin. At Yuyo in Cherrywood, Chef Maribel Rivero draws on culinary acumen acquired from time spent in Peru to turn out spectacular street food like Chocio (Andean corn) and Pollo a la Brasa (charcoal chicken). Then there’s the cebiche—octopus, shrimp, and more, in a citrus marinade called leche de tigre (tiger’s milk)—and don’t forget the pisco sours. Austin Monthly applauded the “menu’s thoughtfully curated point of view, the super-fresh ingredients, and the restaurant’s tranquil-cool style.” We’ll be taking over the restaurant for this event, and Chef Rivero will be in and out of the kitchen to take your questions and share her love for all things Peruvian, African, indigenous Peruvians, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, and other European peoples.
