Kyirisan
6-Course Pan-Asian Meets French Dinner Event
Since its opening in 2016 in the Shaw district, Kyirisan has developed quite a following. Chef Tim Ma, who abandoned a career in engineering ten years ago for one in food, partnered with his wife Joey to open three restaurants in Virginia before setting their sights on the capital, where diners “eat later and more adventurously,” Ma says. If it’s adventure you’re looking for, you’ll find it at Kyirisan, where the cooking draws upon Chef Ma’s Chinese heritage and French Culinary Institute training, allowing ingredients like Thai basil, confit, red miso, and truffle aioli to coexist harmoniously and intriguingly. The Washingtonian calls the menu “thought-provoking and often delicious,” and named it to its “100 Very Best Restaurants 2017” list. And, Michelin has selected Kyirisan as a Bib Gourmand for two straight years and counting. We'll be taking over the entire restaurant for this event and Chef Ma will field your questions and discuss his food passions.
About the Host:
Tim Ma
Executive Chef
After a brief career in electrical engineering, Chef Ma decided that his real passion was cooking and enrolled in the French Culinary Institute in NYC. Upon graduating, he staged at the legendary Momofuku Ko before moving to Virginia to open a handful of his own restaurants: Maple Ave, Water & Wall, Chase the Submarine and Kyrisan. He joined the team at Prather's on the Alley in November 2019 as Executive Chef.
