• Complimentary mango lassi when you dine at the restaurant

This brand-new eatery in Old City specializes in the cuisine of Northern India, which makes use of nuts and dried fruits and offers curries made with yogurt, cream, and ghee (thereby explaining the restaurant’s name, Makhani, meaning “with butter”). Items not often seen on the menus of Indian restaurants, including lobster and scallops, are found here, along with special touches, such as the mangoes from owner Shafi Gaffar’s mango farm in Bangladesh, featured in dishes like mango chicken and mango cheesecake. Executive Chef Sanjoy Banik has headed up hotel and restaurant kitchens in Bangladesh and the U.S., including Desi Village in King of Prussia, Khajuraho in Ardmore, Laxmi’s Indian Grille in Manayunk, and Tandoor in University City. In March, three months after Makhani’s debut, Thrillist named it to its list of “The Best Restaurants in Philly Right Now.”
